Champions seeing red

(HOCKEY - NS) Jim Sampson Motors Hockey

Wed May 10, 2017 - Two goals from Jason Bernard led the Red Army to a 6 -2 victory over Louisburg
Mariners to capture their second league championship. A fastback and forth game saw the Red Army able to finish their best opportunities while the Mariners just missed closing out
their own.
Play began with the first whistle not coming until the 17 minute mark. Peter Stevens gave
the Red Army the lead at 14 minutes. Two quick goals near the end of the first by John T. Johnson and M.R. Gould saw the period end 3-0.
Jason Bernard set up by Tyson Paul made the score 4-0. The Mariners responded immediatly
with Richard Spencer supplying the life line. Louisburg pushed the pace to close the gap. A
3 on 1 rush by Louisburg supplied a great opportunity to spur on the momentum but a missed
chance became a 3 on 1 rush for the Army and Ryan Gould finished off a play from Paul
Marshall.
Teams exchanged goals late Jason Lahey scored for the Mariners and player of the game Jason Bernard with his second closed out the game and championship.
Congratulations to both teams and thanks to all for participating.
